BEN E. KING
Black and white publicity photograph shown on a stool wearing a suit
signed "Stand By Me"
Inscribed Printed Photograph Signed in Ink: "Ben E.
King/to/Aaron/Stand/By/Me/Thanks for being a fan./Have a fun and/Happy life, Now
and/forever.". B/w, 8½x11 overall, image 7¾x9¾ (one surface). After
breaking into music with a series of R&B groups, including the refashioned
Drifters (1959), King (1938-2015) wrote several hits including "There
Goes My Baby", "Dance With Me" and "This Magic Moment". Going solo
in 1960 under his new stage name (he was born Benjamin Nelson), King had hits
the following year with "Spanish Harlem" and his signature song, "Stand By Me".
An early success in crossing over from the R&B to the pop charts, King
provided a model for Motown performers of the 1960s. His career got a major
boost when "Stand By Me" became the theme of the popular film of the same name
in 1986. Slightly creased at corners. Fine condition.
