BEN E. KING
B/w publicity photo of King - head shot, wearing a tux
Printed photograph signed in ink: "Best Wishes/now/and/always/Ben E. King/Stand By/Me". B/w, 7½x9½. After breaking into music with a series of R&B groups, including the refashioned Drifters (1959), King wrote several hits including "There Goes My Baby", "Dance With Me" and "This Magic Moment". Going solo in 1960 under his new stage name (he was born Benjamin Nelson), King had hits the following year with "Spanish Harlem" and his signature song, "Stand By Me". An early success in crossing over from the R&B to the pop charts, King provided a model for Motown performers of the 1960s. His career got a major boost when "Stand By Me" became the theme of the popular film of the same name in 1986. Fine condition.
