Ben Hammer (b.1924), a stout and versatile character actor, has often been cast as authority figures: generals, doctors, priests and - above all - judges. (TV fans have seen him as a judge on Kojak, Quincy, and 10 episodes of Law & Order. He has been playing Broadway roles for over half a century, and - after making frequent appearances on the teleplays of the early 1950s TV series beginning with M Squad (1959). Lightly toned.
