Lyon signed this typed letter in 1966. In it, he tells the recipient that he knew a Mr. Rives and that his first wife Bebe Daniels had recovered from an illness.
Inscribed signature: "Ben Lyon" in blue ink. 1 page, 8x10, on inscribed stationery from 67 Abbotsbury Road, London, England. March 30, 1966. Addressedto Mr. William H. Rowell, Celebrity Museum, Treasure Island Odditorium, Box 757, Denton, Texas. In full: "Dear Mr. Rowell, Thanks so much for your note of 12th March. Yes, I remember Mr. Rives very well. We were together during some interesting times. I am happy to tell you that Bebe has recovered from her illness and is once again back in circulation. With every good wish. I remain, Sincerely, BEN LYON." Lyon's wife Bebe Daniels suffered several strokes during the 1960s. Lyon cared for her until her death in 1971. The two had been married 41 years when she died. Lyon (1901-1979, born in Atlanta, Georgia) was an American actor who starred in films of the silent and early talking era. In Howard Hughes' Hell's Angels (1930), he piloted his own plane. He married Bebe Daniels in 1930. Both moved to England in 1935 and became popular radio and television personalities there. Lyon fought in the Royal Air Force during World War II. After Bebe's death, he married former movie co-star Marian Nixon. In 1946, while working for 20th Century Fox, he organized a color screen test for a young actress named Norma Jean Dougherty, got Dougherty her first contract and suggested a name change to "Marilyn Monroe". Lightly toned and creased. Folded one horizontally and twice vertically and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
