Autograph letter signed: "Ben Travers", in blue ink, 8x3¼. In full: "Dear Mr. Booth, I am happy to make this modest contribution to your notable collection of autographs. Yours sincerely [signature] 7/6/1958". Known primarily for his farces, writer Ben Travers (1886-1980) produced over twenty plays, thirty screenplays, and five novels in his 50 plus year career. Most of his plays appeared in London's West End, including The Dippers, but Travers was best known for his farces which were performed at the Aldwych Theatre in London, particularly Rookery Nook (1926), Thark (1927), Plunder (1928), A Cup of Kindness (1929), and Turkey Time (1931). His attempts at more series material were never well received, with his play Chastity, my brother failing horribly and running for only two weeks. One of Travers last works was his play The Bed Before Yesterday (1975), written after the lifting of theatre censorship in Britain, which followed a middle aged woman discovering the joy of sex. Light surface creases. Corners lightly worn and creased. Bottom edge frayed and notched. Slightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
