to the Country Music Hall of Fame (1961), 13-cent stamp affixed, postmarked
Meridian, Mississippi, May 24, 1978, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Photo reproduction
of Rodgers' plaque affixed at left. In 1969, 22-year-old Ben Vereen joined
the cast of Hair and eventually played Judas in Jesus Christ
Superstar, a role that earned him the Theatre World Award. He went on to
perform in Pippin, earning the 1973 Tony Award for Best Actor
(Musical). Vereen's film credits include Funny Lady and All That
Jazz. He played the memorable character of Chicken George in the TV
miniseries Roots (1977). He replaced Joel Grey as the Wizard of Oz in the
hit Broadway musical Wicked (2005). Fine condition.
