BENJAMIN H. BREWSTER. Autograph Sentiment signed: "with the sincere respects of your friend/Benjamin Harris Brewster", 7x1¾ slip. Benjamin Harris Brewster (1816-1888) was appointed by President Polk (1846) to adjudicate Cherokee Indian claims against the US Government. He was Attorney General of Pennsylvania (1867-1868) and later US Attorney General under President Arthur (1882-1885). Brewster is remembered for saying: "A lawyer starts life giving $500 worth of law for $5 and ends giving $5 worth for $500." Vertical folds, one crossing first "r" of "Harris." Mounting adhesive shows through lightly. Irregularly trimmed at left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
