Black and white 3¼x5½ photograph of the comedian signed "Cheers!" for a fan
Inscribed photograph signed "To Pedro/Cheers!/Benny Hill" in blue ink. B/w, 3¼x5½ overall,
3¼x4 image, one surface. British comedian Hill (1925-1992) appeared in over 20 movies and
TV shows between 1953 and 1991 and was also a stage and radio performer, but is probably
best known for his Emmy-nominated comedy sketch series The Benny Hill Show(1969-1989). The Benny Hill Show was introduced on Los Angeles TV in early 1979 and
became an instant hit in the States. Looser British TV standards meant that Hill could offer
all kinds of ribald humor, much of it involving scantily-clad women. The show drew the
expected criticism from prudes and Puritans, but not enough to prevent its becoming a
number-one syndicated TV series into the late '80s. Lightly toned, silvered, stained, soiled,
creased and bowed. Signature is lightly beaded but legible. White-out in corner (does not
touch signature). Light scuffing on image. Adhesive residue on verso (no show-through).
