CLASSICAL MUSICIANS: BERNARD ROBERTS, JURGEN HESS and OLGA HEGEDUS
All three sign an album leaf, which is also signed on verso by music historian Rosemary Hughes
Signatures: "The Tononi Trio", "Bernard Roberts", "Olga Hegedus", "Jurgen Hess" and on verso "Rosemary Hughes" and an unidentified signer. 5x3¾ pink album leaf. British pianist BERNARD ROBERTS (b. 1933) is known for his performances of Beethoven's Piano Sonatas and his Bach recordings, including "The Well Tempered Clavier." Violinist JURGEN HESS was leader of the English Chamber Orchestra and also an influential session musician. His violin can be heard on Beatles recordings, including "A Day in the Life" and "Eleanor Rigby". OLGA HEGEDUS is a cellist, performing classical compositions from Bach to Elgar. Music historian and critic ROSEMARY HUGHES has written biographies of Beethoven (1970) and Haydn (1978). THE TONONI TRIO is a mystery here. There is more than one music ensemble performing under this name, a modern jazz group led by Tiziano Tononi, and a classical trio based in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Both trios consist of a percussion instrument, a violinist and a cello or bass, the instruments played by Roberts, Hess and Hegedus, but research to date has found no evidence that these three musicians performed together as a trio. Tononi violins, crafted by a family in Bologna and then Venice, Italy, in the early 18th century, are high quality musical instruments. Left edge ragged and has adhesive residue from previous binding. Otherwise, fine condition.
