Autograph letter signed: "Bernice Claire" in blue ink. 5¼x7.
Theater Royal, Brighton, Friday (no date). In full: "Dear Will Scott,
Thank you for your letter and good wishes. Here is the autograph. Yours
sincerely". Bernice Claire (1907-2003) paired with Alexander Gray
as the first film operetta couple, preceding Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson
Eddy. Her first film appearance was in No, No Nanette (1930); a
dozen movie roles followed through 1938. Claire sang on radio and with
orchestras. She appeared on Broadway in The Chocolate Soldier (1934).
Lightly toned. Horizontal crease across center. Otherwise, fine
condition.
