Sale Price $170.00
An official MLB baseball signed by the hitter, citing his memorable Game 6 of the 1975 World Series with the Boston Red Sox
Baseball signed: "Bernie Carbo/T W.S. Game 6/H.R.", in blue ink. Official white MLB baseball commemorating Fenway Park's 100th Anniversary. Bernie Carbo (b. 1947) played outfield for the Boston Red Sox from 1974-1976 and 1977-1978 (after playing 69 games with the Milwaukee Brewers in 1976). It was during his time as a member of the Red Sox team that Carbo hit his famous and historic three-run, pinch-hit home run to tie the score in Game 6 of the 1975 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds, though the team would later lose the World Series to Cincinnati. Carbo, who was a designated hitter for Boston, also played for the St. Louis Cardinals (1972-1973, 1979-1980), the Cleveland Indians (1978), and the Pittsburgh Pirates (1980). During a 1985 federal drug distribution trial, former Cardinal Keith Hernandez ousted Carbo as a heavy drug user during his baseball career, citing that Carbo originally introduced him to cocaine. The bad publicity ruined Carbo's successful career as a hair dresser and helped contribute to the disintegration of his family and his finances, with Carbo still heavily using drugs at the time. Since the admission of his drug problem, Carbo became a born again Christian, and has been sober for over fifteen years. Slight markings in center of signature, but does not affect legibility. Fine condition.
