BERT BLYLEVEN
Signed commemorative envelope showing him pitching (and winning) Game 2 of the
1987 World Series
Commemorative Envelope signed: "Bert Blyleven", 6½x3¾. Envelope with color cachet of
Blyleven on the mound for the Twins in Game 2 of the 1987 World Series, postmarked
Metrodome Station, Minneapolis, Minnesota, October 18, 1987 (the date and site of the
game), 22-cent US stamp affixed, Born in the Netherlands but raised in southern California,
Bert Blyleven won 287 games in a Major League career which extended from 1970 to 1992,
even though he played for many losing clubs. The American League Rookie of the Year in
1970, Blyleven threw a vicious curve ball. He twice led the league in home runs allowed, but a
high percentage of those were solo shots. He challenged hitters, refusing to put many runners
on with walks. Twice an All-Star (1973, 1985), Blyleven pitched a no-hitter for the
Rangers in 1977. He helped the 1979 Pirates and the 1987 Twins to World
Championships (winning the game shown here). Blyleven entered the Hall of Fame in
2011. Lightly toned. Slightly soiled. Ink stamps. Otherwise, fine condition.
