Autograph Note Signed: "To/Jerry/From/Bess/Flowers", 4½x3½. On personal note paper with red border and monogram "F". Bess Flowers (1898-1984) was called "the Queen of the Hollywood Extras." Between 1923 and 1964, she appeared in over 700 movies, mostly in un-credited roles. She was similarly engaged in TV of the 1950s and early 1960s, appearing in multiple episodes of such series as I Love Lucy, Ozzie and Harriet and Perry Mason. She appeared in 21 films nominated for Best Picture by the Academy, and is tied with Wallis Clark and Franklyn Farnum for appearances in the most Oscar-winning Best Pictures (5): It Happened One Night, You Can't Take It With You, All About Eve, The Greatest Show on Earth and Around the World in 80 Days. Somebody has to play the "nightclub patron" or "party guest," and for four decades that person was very often Bess Flowers. Adhesive residue at top left corner (previous mounting). Minor bleeding of ink. Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
