6½x9¼ image. Bess Myerson (1924-2014), the first Jewish Miss
America (1945), appeared on a number of television game shows, including The
Big Payoff (1951), I've Got a Secret (1958-1967) and To Tell the Truth (1967),
and co-hosted Candid Camera (1966-1967). She later served as
New York City's Commissioner of Consumer Affairs (1969-1973) and
Commissioner of Cultural Affairs (1983-1987). A close friend of New York
Mayor Ed Koch, she ran for the US Senate in 1980, but lost in the
primary. Her indictment in a tax fraud and bribery scandal ended her public
career, even though she was acquitted. She remained active in civil rights and
philanthropic causes. Corners creased. Minor scratches on face not seen head-on.
