The Best Man opened on Broadway in April 1960. PAUL NEWMAN and his wife, JOANNE WOODWARD, were in the audience at this pre-Broadway performance. GORE VIDAL wrote the play. THEONI ALDRIDGE made the costumes. JOSEPH ANTHONY was the director. MELVYN DOUGLAS was Secretary William Russell, LEORA DANA was Mrs. Russell. LEE TRACY played President Arthur Hockstader and FRANK LOVEJOY was Senator Joseph Cantwell. Douglas won the 1960 Tony Award for Best Actor. Also nominated for Tony Awards were Tracy (Actor), Dana (Supporting Actress), Anthony (Director) and Vidal (Best Play). Lightly creased and worn. Chipped at bottom right blank corner. Lightly soiled. Overall, fine condition.
