BETTE DAVIS This black and white photograph of the actress is signed and framed! Inscribed Photograph Signed: “For Peter Bradlee/ from/ Bette Davis”. B/w. 7½x9½ visible. Screen legend Bette Davis (1908-1989) was nominated for eleven Best Actress Oscars, winning two. She made her screen debut in the film The Bad Sister (1931); after appearances in a few more films that year, she was cast as the female lead in The Man Who Played God (1932). Two years later, she earned her first Academy Award nomination for portraying the cruel Mildred Rogers in Of Human Bondage. After receiving critical acclaim for this performance, her career really took off; over the years, she starred in major films like Jezebel (1938), Now, Voyager (1942), and All About Eve (1950). Davis earned her final Oscar nomination for her performance as a mentally ill former child star in What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962). The film starred Davis and Joan Crawford, who famously despised each other even before this movie. The psychological thriller was unlike anything that had appeared on the silver screen before, and it revitalized both actresses at a time when they were entering the twilight of their careers. The film was nominated for five Academy Awards. In 1999, the American Film Institute placed Davis second on their list of the greatest female actresses of all time. Bottom-right corner of frame lightly chipped. Otherwise, fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 15x23¼.
