BETTY GRABLE
Betty Grable sends a typed letter about her films.
Typed Letter Signed: "Betty", 1p, 7¼x10½. Beverly Hills, c. 1951. To Mr.Lally. In full: "Thanks for your gracious acknowledgment of my photos. I am pleased to know that you like them. At this time I do not have eight different costume poses that I can send to you, but I shall send what I have; that is, two [not present]. Possibly, others can be obtained by writing directly to 20th Century-Fox Studio, explaining you plan and enclosing 25¢ for each 8x10 and 10¢ for each 5x7 photo desired. It is heartwarming to know that you derived so much enjoyment from 'Wabash Avenue' and 'My Blue Heaven', and I hope that 'Call Me Mister' will be welcomed with equal enjoyment. I am about to begin a new assignment entitled 'Meet Me After the Show' with Rory Calhoun, Eddie Albert, and Macdonald Carey. This, like 'My Blue Heaven', will be gay and colorful, with plenty of dance numbers and attractive costumes. With best wishes for success and propriety in your Dining Lounge, I am, Sincerely yours," The first two films were released in 1950, the last two in 1951. Chosen by the GIs in WWII as their number one "pin-up girl", Betty Grable (1916-1973) appeared in a series of musicals and dramas in the 1940s and early 1950s. Fox publicity insured her legs with Lloyds of London for one million dollars. Grable was married to her second husband, trumpeter-bandleader Harry James from 1943 until they divorced in 1965. Returning to the Broadway stage after her divorce, Grable was successful as a replacement for Carol Channing in Hello, Dolly. Lightly creased. Staple holes upper left. Horizontal fold touches signature. Overall, fine condition.
