Carbon Contract signed: "Betty Hutton" in ink as Performer, 2p, 8½x13¾, front and verso. No place, 1956 January 13. "Standard AFTRA Engagement Contract For Single Television Broadcast and For Multiple Television Broadcasts Within One Calendar Week" in which Sagebrush Enterprises, Inc. contracts with Hutton for her appearance on The Milton Berle Show, to be aired from NBC Studios in Burbank on January 31, 1956. Hutton is to be paid $10,000 for her performance, and a rider stapled to the contract also provides for $250 for a hairdresser and $250 for an accompanist. Hutton has initialed: "BH" twice on two of the three riders stapled at left margin. Also signed by a representative of Sagebrush Enterprises, Inc. who has also initialed all three of the riders at right margins. In the year she signed this contract, Hutton also appeared on three other TV programs, What's My Line?, Toast of the Town and The Dinah Shore Chevy Show. Actress/singer Betty Hutton (1921-2007), born Elizabeth June Thornburg, was singing with bands at age 13. She debuted on Broadway in 1940 (Two for the Show) and in film two years later (The Fleet's In). Her best remembered film musical was Annie Get Your Gun (1950). She left Hollywood after a contract dispute with Paramount in 1952, but continued to perform on stage and make guest TV appearances. Later, she returned to college, earned a master's degree and taught acting. Lightly creased with folds, horizontal fold at Betty and the upper loops of the "H" and "tt" of Hutton. 2 file holes at upper blank margin, ½-inch tears at blank areas above both. Nicked at upper blank edge, lightly soiled at lower blank margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
