BETTY HUTTON
The singer signs sheet music for "Tangerine"
Sheet Music signed: "Betty/Hutton" on front cover, 6p, 9x12. Sheet music for "Tangerine", lyrics by Johnny Mercer and music by Victor Schertzinger. ©1942, Paramount Music Corporation. "Tangerine" was featured in the 1942 film, The Fleet's In, which starred Hutton as Bessie Day and Dorothy Lamour, Jimmy Dorsey and His Orchestra, Eddie Bracken and William Holden (some of the film's stars are pictured on front cover; Jimmy Dorsey is featured on back cover). In 1942, Hutton was also seen on the big screen in Star Spangled Rhythm. Actress/singer Betty Hutton (1921-2007), born Elizabeth June Thornburg, was singing with bands at age 13. She debuted on Broadway in 1940 (Two for the Show) and in film two years later (The Fleet's In). Her best remembered film musical was Annie Get Your Gun (1950). Hutton left Hollywood after a contract dispute with Paramount in 1952, but she continued to perform on stage and make guest TV appearances. Later, she returned to college, earned a master's degree and taught acting. Covers are lightly creased and soiled. Inside pages are slightly soiled at blank margins. Otherwise, fine condition.
