BETTYE ACKERMAN. Photograph inscribed and signed: "Warm
regards/to you, Joseph./Bettye Ackerman". B/w, 8x9¾ overall, image 6¾x8½
(one surface). Actress Bettye Ackerman (1924-2006) is best known to
television audiences as Dr. Maggie Graham, the love interest (1962-1963) of
Vince Edwards on the TV medical drama, Ben Casey. Ackerman was the
second wife (1956-1984) of the show's co-star, character actor Sam Jaffe
(1891-1984), who played Casey's mentor. Ackerman, who made her television
debut in 1955 on Studio One, went on to appear in a number of
early TV anthologies, and she had guest starring roles on a long list of
TV series, including recurring roles on Bracken's World (1970) and
Return to Peyton Place (1972, as the first Constance MacKenzie).
Ackerman also appeared in several made-for-TV movies, and she was seen on
the big screen in a handful of feature films from 1959 (Face of
Fire) to 1991 (Ted and Venus). Slightly creased at blank margins and
corners, slightly soiled at left margin. Minor surface creases (not evident head
on). Ink note (unknown hand) on verso (no show through or impressions). Overall,
fine condition.
