BEVERLY TYLER
The singer and actress is shown smiling radiantly in this vintage
3½x6 candid photograph acquired from the collection of Francis and Violet
Zane
Inscribed photograph signed: "To
Violet/Regards/Beverly/Tyler", in green ink, B/w 3½x6. Beverly Tyler
(1927-2005) was a radio singer before becoming an MGM contract player.
Her film roles, most casting her as a second lead, included Best Foot
Forward (1943, her only singing role), The Green Years (1946), The
Fireball (1950), The Cimarron Kid (1952) and Hong Kong
Confidential (1958). Critics seem to agree that she had more talent than
the movie studios gave her the chance to demonstrate. After her 1962 marriage to
comedy writer Jim Jordan, Jr., her only appearances were in local stage
productions. This photograph is from the collection of Francis and Violet
Zane, Hawaii natives who moved to California in the 1920's. Francis Zane
had a job at the historic Curran Theater and the San Francisco Opera House,
which is where he began his massive collection, with photographs and
materials ranging from the 1920's to 1960's. The location and luck of his
occupation would land him smack dab in the middle of the celebrity world,
allowing him to capture some of the most unique and interesting pieces of
Hollywood History. Edges decoratively cut. Lightly bowed. Otherwise, fine
condition.
