BILL BRADLEY
Bradley's handwritten letter on US senate letterhead.
Autograph letter signed: "Bill", 1p, 6¼x8½. United States Senate, Washington, D.C., 1993 August 15. To New York Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan. In full: "Pat- Thanks for all your help on the urban portion of the tax bill. I appreciate it and congratulations on a great job of leadership for the President & the country. You now unquestionably are 'Mr Chairman'." MOYNIHAN had become Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee in January 1993, succeeding Lloyd Bentsen who left the Senate to become Clinton's Secretary of the Treasury. After they are introduced on the Senate floor, tax bills are sent to the Finance Committee. The final vote in the Senate ended in a tie and was decided by Vice President Gore in his capacity as President of the Senate. That came one day after the House had passed the bill by the narrow margin of 218 to 216. The Revenue Reconciliation Act of 1993 was signed into law by President Clinton on August 10, 1993. Five days later, Senator BRADLEY wrote this letter to Moynihan.
