BILL CARLISLE
A note from Carlisle to a fan, thanking them for their very nice letter
Autograph note signed: "To "Roy Pitts"/Thanks to you for your/very nice letter,/Bill Carlisle", in green ink, 5x3. American country singer Bill Carlisle (1908-2003) was popular in the late 1940's and 1950's, though he first began performing in the 1920's with older brother Cliff Carlisle. His first solo single was 1933's "Rattlesnake Daddy", but continued to perform with his brother as well, forming the Carlisle Brothers in 1938. Carlisle was noted for his skill on the guitar and his yodeling in songs, spawning hits like "A Rainbow at Midnight" and "Tramp on the Street". After his brother retired, Bill continued to perform with a backing group he also called The Carlisles, continuing to record and perform on television, falling out of the public eye by the late 1960's. However, he remained a regular performer at the Grand Ole Opry, performing up until his death in 2003. In 2002, Carlisle was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame. Stray ink marks on bottom edge. Slightly toned. Corners slightly worn. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
