Matchbook signed: "Bill Cosby", 4½x1½. Bill Cosby (b.1937) is credited with breaking the color barrier for Black comedians. After finding success on the comedy club circuit, he made the first of six consecutive Grammy Award-winning recordings, I Started Out as a Child, in 1964. The following year, Cosby became the first Black to star in a television drama series. He won three Emmy Awards for his role as Agent Alexander (Scotty) Scott opposite Robert Culp in I Spy (1965-1968). Remembered as Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable on The Cosby Show (1984-1992), the actor has starred in other television series and films. He has authored humorous books, beginning with the best-selling Fatherhood in 1986. In 1998, he was honored by the Kennedy Center for his work in the performing arts.
