Signed autograph note, acquired at the London Palladium after a performance of Kiss Me Kate
Autograph Note signed: "To Peter,/All good wishes/Bill Johnson", slip. Affixed to a 6¾x4½ card with ink caption (unknown hand), dating the signature to the London Palladium, November 26, 1951, at a performance of Kiss Me Kate. Card also bears a b/w magazine photo of Johnson. William "Bill" Johnson (1916-1957) was a child actor on Broadway, and then worked the vaudeville circuit in the 1930s before returning to the Great White Way in 1940 to star in the music review All in Fun. After World War II, he starred in more musical comedies there, including The Day Before Spring, Kismet and Pipe Dream. He starred in the first London production of Cole Porter's Kiss Me Kate, as shown here. Hand decorated. Left edge frayed. Lightly toned. Fine condition.
