BILL RUSSELL B/w photograph of a young Russell in his Celtics attire shooting one handed against a white wall background. A very rare early signature Photograph signed: "Kindest/Regards/Bill/Russell", B/w 8x10. A young Russell is shown in a Celtics Jersey and shorts shooting a basketball one-handed, on a court, with a white wall background. Bill Russell was the NBA's MVP for the 1957-1958, 1960-1961, 1961-1962, 1962-1963 and 1964-1965 seasons. Playing his entire pro career with the Boston Celtics, Russell, born in 1934, was key to making the Celtics one of the great sports dynasties of all time (not to mention winners of 11 NBA championships in 13 years between 1956 and 1969). He became the first Black NBA (and major U. S. sport) head coach in 1966 and was enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 1975. In 1980, the Basketball Writers' Association of America named him the greatest NBA player of all time. Russell signed few autographs, even later when he was paid to do so. Signatures from early in his career are quite scarce! Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Date-stamped on verso APR 11 1961. Lightly creased. Paperclip impression at the top edge. A few spots of irregular ink adhesion to his name. Photograph curved on both sides. Otherwise, fine condition. Accompanied by PSA/DNA LOA.
