16x20 photo, shown during a time out, conferencing with Celtic teammates at the old Boston Garden
Photograph signed: "Bill Russell/17.8". B/w, 16x20. Playing his entire pro career with the Boston Celtics, Russell, born in 1934, was key to making the Celtics one of the great sports dynasties of all time (not to mention winners of 11 NBA championships in 13 years between 1956 and 1969). He became the first Black NBA (and major U. S. sport) head coach in 1966 and was enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 1975. In 1980, the Basketball Writers' Association of America named him the greatest NBA player of all time. Unlike many of sports' "magic numbers, the number Russell has added to his signature here is not a famous one. Russell was renowned for his defense, preferring to feed the ball to other players on offense, but he averaged 17.8 field goals per game in the 1965 NBA finals, won by the Celtics over the arch rival Los Angeles Lakers. Fine condition.
