The actor writes to John Willis, Editor of Theatre World, telling him to consider another actor in his recent play for a Theatre World award
Typed letter signed: "Bill Steele", in green ink, 1 page, 8½x11. March 7, 1969. New York City, New York. In full: "Dear Mr. Willis: Thank you for inquiry re: OPEN 24 HOURS for Theatre World. I have THEATRE WORLD 1944-45, so you know I'm an enthusiast. I hope you are considering Arlen Dean Snyder of OPEN 24 HOURS as a possible Theatre World winner. Even our pans gave credit to him for his performance. Sincerely". Post script: "Is there any way I can get a 1954-55? It's the only edition in which I was pictured (for NOAH and for WHAT EVERY WOMEN KNOWS) - and a friend borrowed it, apparently permanently". Bill Steele (1927-2004) appeared in a number of off Broadway plays and in the films Cielo sin estrellas (1993) and Ana: Portrait in Days (1996). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Light surface creases. Corners slightly worn and creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
