BILL "WHISPERING BILL" ANDERSON
The country music artist writes letter of appreciation to a fan, signs name in black ink
Typed letter signed: "Bill Anderson" in black ink. 1 page, 7¼x10½. Written on personal letterhead. November 11, 1983. Hermitage, Tennessee. Addressed to Mr. James Keenan of Bronx, New York. In full: "Just a note to thank you for the nice birthday card and the note inside. It was good to hear from you. I appreciate the kind word you had to say about me, and I'm glad to know I have such a good fan and friend in the Bronx. At this time I have no way of knowing whether I will be on the Opry next August. I usually don't know until the week of the Opry if I will be in town or not, but I hope I'll get a chance to meet you personally somewhere in my travels. Enclosed is the autographed picture you requested, along with my best wishes always. Sincerely". Country music singer and songwriter Anderson had his first #1 country hit, "Mama Sang a Song", in 1962. A member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1961, he was named to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1975. Anderson hosted a TV quiz show, The Better Sex (1977-1978), and continues to tour with his band, Po Folks. Lightly toned. Corners rounded. Light surface creases. Ink smears on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
