BILLIE DOVE. ALS: "Billie Dove", 1p, 5¾x7¾. No place, no date. To William Stanhope. In full: "I was away from home for a few days and some kind friends 'took over.' However, they put quite a few pictures in a nice little pile! Could you please drop me a note with a little description of those you sent me to autograph. That way I can get the right ones back to you. Sorry, but we'll do the best we can! Sincerely". One of the best known of the Ziegfeld girls, Billie Dove (1901-1997), born Lillian Bohney, made her film debut in 1921's Get Rich Quick Wallingford. She would make over 40 films before retiring from the screen in 1932, including The Black Pirate (1927) and American Beauty (1927), the name by which she was called during the apex of her stage and screen career. Glue remnants on verso at upper, lower right margin and lower left margin (no show through). Fine condition.
