The British Heavyweight champion boxer signs a letter on his
company's stationery at Billy Aird Promotions.
Autograph letter signed: "Billy Aird", 1 page, 8¼x11¾.
Bermondsey, London, England, 22 May 1986. To "Dear Peter" in
full: "Thank you for your letter. Sorry for the delay in replying. I've
enclosed two signed photo's [sic] of myself. I hope one day I might have
a nice Irish boy like Barry McGeighan in my stable. Yours in sport,".Billy Aird (b.1943) won the BBB of C Central Area heavyweight title in
1970 in his third matchup with Richard Dunn. He had a successful
1971-1972 season, but in 1973 Dunn returned to eliminate Aird from the British
Heavyweight title match. Aird got another chance for the title fight in
1976 but the bout ended in a draw with Bunny Johnson and points alone
could not secure his seat in the finals.He had hopes of winning the
vacant BBB of C heavyweight title in 1980, but Gordon Ferris (a longtime
rival) defeated him 148-147. Aird finished out his career with a record of
26-15-5. He's been running his sports promoting business, Billy Aird
Promotions LTD since the 1980s. Lightly creased. Fine
condition.
