The British Heavyweight champion boxer signs a letter on his company's stationery at Billy Aird Promotions.
Autograph letter signed: "Billy Aird", 1 page, 8¼x11¾. Bermondsey, London, England, 22 May 1986. To "Dear Peter" in full: "Thank you for your letter. Sorry for the delay in replying. I've enclosed two signed photo's [sic] of myself. I hope one day I might have a nice Irish boy like Barry McGeighan in my stable. Yours in sport,". Billy Aird (b.1943) won the BBB of C Central Area heavyweight title in 1970 in his third matchup with Richard Dunn. He had a successful 1971-1972 season, but in 1973 Dunn returned to eliminate Aird from the British Heavyweight title match. Aird got another chance for the title fight in 1976 but the bout ended in a draw with Bunny Johnson and points alone could not secure his seat in the finals. He had hopes of winning the vacant BBB of C heavyweight title in 1980, but Gordon Ferris (a longtime rival) defeated him 148-147. Aird finished out his career with a record of 26-15-5. He's been running his sports promoting business, Billy Aird Promotions LTD since the 1980s. Lightly creased. Fine condition.
