Singer, actor, director, producer and writer Billy Bob Thornton (born William Robert Thornton in 1955) began his show business career as a singer and musician in Tres Hombres, a band that once opened for Hank Williams, Jr. After moving to Hollywood, he appeared in one film, One False Move (1992), which he co-wrote with childhood friend, Tom Epperson, but he found stardom after writing, directing and starring in Sling Blade (1996), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and was nominated for the Best Actor Oscar. Thornton has since been nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for A Simple Plan (1998) and for Golden Globes for The Man Who Wasn't There (2001), Bandits (2001) and Bad Santa (2003). His other film credits include U Turn (1997), Primary Colors (1998), Armageddon (1998), Pushing Tin (1999), Monster's Ball (2001), Interolable Cruelty (2003), Love Actually (2003), The Alamo (2004, as Davy Crockett, his favorite role), Friday Night Lights (2004), Bad News Bears (2005) and The Ice Harvest (2005). Thornton is also known for his high profile romance with and marriage (2000-2003) to actress Angelina Jolie. Adequate contrast.
