BING CROSBY
The popular singer and actor fulfills a request for an autograph and mentions his next film, Here Come the Waves, which was released in 1944, the year that Crosby appeared in his Oscar-winning role in Going My Way.
Typed Letter Signed: "Bing", 1p, 7¼x10½. Hollywood, California, 1944 December 30. On his imprinted stationery to Joan Eyre, Derbyshire, England. Begins: "Dear Miss Eyre". In full: "It is a pleasure to fulfill your request for an autograph which is enclosed. Our next picture release is 'Here Come the Waves'. Some of the songs are already popular. Yours for VICTORY". Enclosure not present. With original typed, stamped mailing envelope. Here Come the Waves, a musical romance released in 1944, starred Crosby as Johnny Cabot, a crooner who is drafted into the Navy. The film, which co-starred Betty Hutton, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Music, Original Song for "Accentuate the Positive". In 1944, Crosby was also seen on the big screen in Going My Way (for which he would win the Academy Award for Best Actor) and The Princess and the Pirate. Harry Lillis "Bing" Crosby (1904-1977) won the 1944 Academy Award for Best Actor for Going My Way. He was also nominated for Best Actor Oscars for The Bells of St. Mary's (1945) and The Country Girl (1954). Known for his relaxed "crooning" style of singing, Crosby recorded more than 1,600 songs that sold at least 500 million copies. His 1942 single of "White Christmas" sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and was the best-selling single in any music category for more than 50 years. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Fine condition.
