Signatures: "Ethelbert Talbot/Bishop of Bethlehem/Scranton - April 18-19-20, 1925", 1p, 5½x5¾. Also signed: "S. K. Ratcliffe,/2 Erskine Hill, London, N.W. 11/march 25, 1925" and "Beth Kerley". Kerley has handwritten a poem: "I hate to follow one who leads/His flock with such sweet grace/I haste to leave for those who read/My blessings on this dwelling place./April 20-27, 1925". Episcopalian clergyman ETHELBERT TALBOT (1848-1928) was named Bishop of Central Pennsylvania in 1898 and settled in the town of Bethlehem.In 1924, the year after he signed this autograph, Talbot was named Presiding Bishop of the Church. Talbot, who had begun his career as a rector in Macon, Missouri in 1873, later served as a missionary bishop in Wyoming and Idaho, overseeing the building of St. Matthew's Cathedral in Laramie, Wyoming from 1892-1897. S. K. RATCLIFFE, was a British journalist and a leader of the humanist movement. His books include The Roots of Violence (1934). Beth Kerley merits further research. Binder holes at lower left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
