ETHELBERT TALBOT and BESSIE R JETER. Signatures: "Ethelbert Talbot/Bishop of Bethlehem/April 7-9-1923./A most enjoyable visit./Confirmed dear little/Ruth at St. Lukes (sic)." and "Bessie R. Jeter -/April 7-9, 1923.", 5½x8½ sheet. BESSIE R. JETER resided in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. We have found reference to her passing through Ellis Island in 1920 (at age 40; place of residence given as Bethlehem, Pennsylvania). Episcopalian clergyman ETHELBERT TALBOT (1848-1928) was named Bishop of Central Pennsylvania in 1898 and settled in the town of Bethlehem.In 1924, the year after he signed this autograph, Talbot was named Presiding Bishop of the Church. Talbot, who had begun his career as a rector in Macon, Missouri in 1873, later served as a missionary bishop in Wyoming and Idaho, overseeing the building of St. Matthew's Cathedral in Laramie, Wyoming from 1892-1897. Lightly soiled, touching the last "t" of Talbot. Lightly stained at blank right margin, file holes at blank left edge. Overall, fine condition.
