The Methodist Bishop and Chancellor of the University of Denver signed this
letter and sent it to editor Albert Ellery Berg
Typed Letter Signed: “William F. McDowell” in black ink. 5¾x9¼. Letterhead
from the University of Denver, University Park, Colorado. Dated April 12,
1899. Sent to Mr. Albert Ellery Berg, an editor based in New York City. In Full:
“I enclose the proof of the article, corrected, and beg to acknowledge the check for
$50., for which please accept my thanks”. The university administrator and
religious figure submitted an article for publication and requested his fee. Bishop
William Fraser McDowell (1858-1937) was first elected a Bishop of the
Methodist Episcopal Church in 1904. This appointment came just a few years
after his tenure as Chancellor of the University of Denver ended (1890-1899).
He published The Revival: A Symposium in 1905, just a year after he was
named Bishop. Mailing creases. Slight creasing. Evenly toned. Otherwise, fine
condition.
