Autograph Letter in German, signed in 1881.
ALS: "Bjornstjerne Bjornson", 1 page, folded to 6x7½. Place illegible,
1881 January 25. In German, fully translated. "Dear
friend, I have done injustice to your postal service. The letter to you from New
York or Chicago (I remembered to have said in the last letter not from where) I
simply didn't send and didn't forward; I find it today under my ((unreadable)).
I enclose it; it tells you something you don't know and you must not tell
someone else! Your loyal friend". Bjornstjerne Bjornson (1832-1910), a
novelist and dramatist as well as a poet, received the 1903 Nobel Prize in
Literature "as a tribute to his noble, magnificent and versatile poetry,
which has always been distinguished by both the freshness of its inspiration and
the rare purity of its spirit." His poem, "Yes, We Love This Land", became
the Norwegian national anthem. Slightly creased and soiled. Overall, fine
condition.
