BLAZE STARRThe burlesque star signs this handwritten letter in response to an admirer's inquiry about photographs Autograph Letter Signed: "Blaze Starr" in red ink. 3½x3¾. Written on the back of a fan's letter to her, in full: "Dear Willie, I leave here in WVA Jan 20th order photos before then. I won't be here again until December. I work craft shows down South West with my jewelry. Ok? Love". As a queen of burlesque, Blaze Starr(1932-2015) was known not just for her body, but for her gimmicks. For instance, her act featured a smoldering couch which appeared to burst into flame as she stripped on it. Starr's involvement with Louisiana Governor Earl K. Long resulted in a major political scandal and was the subject of Blaze, a 1989 Academy Award nominated film starring Paul Newman. After Long died, the flamboyant Starr had a relationship with President Kennedy which - she claims - included trysts in the Lincoln Bedroom of the White House. Fully retired from stripping since 1983, Starr is now in the jewelry business. Corners rounded slightly. Text on verso x-ed over in red ink. Otherwise, fine condition.
