On letterhead of Sam Perlmutter, Attorney At Law, Los Angeles, California to Mr. Martin Baum, Creative Artists Agency, Los Angeles, California regarding "'Bolero' (the Picture')". In full: "As you know, Sam Perlmutter and John Derek spoke on Saturday about the 'Bolero' matter. Sam and John reached an agreement on certain issues, which agreement hereby becomes part of the formal documentation of the agreement between Cannon Films, Inc. and John and Bo Derek. The agreement is as follows: 1. If, after completion and delivery of the answer print of the Picture, Cannon Films refuses, for any reasons whatsoever, to make prompt payment to the Dereks of the final $300,000 payment due at that time, then Cannon Films and the Dereks will go to arbitration to resolve the dispute(s) giving rise to Cannon Film's refusal to pay the final payment. 2. The aforementioned arbitration shall take place in Los Angeles, California, and shall be conducted in all respects under the supervision of, and in acordance with the rules and regula1tions of, the American Arbitration Association. The Dereks and Cannon Films agree that neither party shall resort to the courts to resolve the aforementioned dispute(s) prior to the determination of said dispute(s) by aribtration. The aforementioned arbitration shall only apply in the case of a failure by Cannon Films to pay the last $300,000 payment due on completion of the answer print and to the disputes giving rise to such failure. No other matter arising from the agreement between the parties shall be subject to such arbitration. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in this letter, the foregoing agreement shall not become part of the formal documentation of the agreement between the parties unless Menahem Golan and/or Yoram Clobus are given the opportunity to view the director's final cut of the Picture on or before Tuesday, December 6, 1983. Also, in accordance with Sam and John's conversation, enclosed is Cannon Films' check for $300,000, representing the payment due upon delivery of the director's final cut of the Picture. Negotiation thereof is conditioned upon a screening of the director's final cut of the Picture for Menahem Golan and/or Yoram Globus. Very truly yours". Photocopied signature of Lawrence M Kopeikin on last page. Palestinian born producer MENAHEM GOLAN and his cousin, producer and financier YORAM GLOBUS, were the Executive Producers of Bolero. Bolero, which was promoted as "The Hottest Erotic Film of the Century", was released in 1984 and starred Bo Derek as Lida MacGillivery. Written and directed by John Derek, the film "won" Razzie Awards for Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Actress, Worst New Star (Olivia d'Abo), Worst Screenplay and Worst Musical Score, and the film was nominated for a Razzie in 1990 as Worst Picture of the Decade. Actress BO DEREK, born Mary Cathleen Collins in 1956, emerged as a pinup favorite after her role as the object of Dudley Moore's sexual fantasies in 10 (1979). Two years later, she starred in Tarzan the Ape Man, which was directed by her husband, JOHN DEREK, with whom she founded Svengali Productions. Lightly creased.
