BOB BARKER. Photograph inscribed and signed: "Hi Betty -/Bob
Barker". B/w, 8x10. In 1956, Barker was hired to host the daytime television
version of the long-running radio quiz show, Truth or Consequences, on
NBC; he stayed on as its host until 1974. Even before his run on Truth or
Consequences ended, Barker had taken on the hosting duties of another
game show, The Price Is Right, which since 1950 had aired on NBC and
ABC before finding a home, at the time of Barker's arrival in 1972, on CBS.
In November 1975, The Price Is Right became the first-ever hour-long
game show; in 1990, it surpassed Truth or Consequences as the
longest-running daytime game show in history. Barker also hosted the Miss
Universe and Miss U.S.A. pageants every year from 1966 to 1988. In 1996,
Barker won an Emmy Award for Lifetime Achievement. Fine
