BOB BERRY
The NHL player and coach signs this 3½x4½ photograph shown wearing a
Canadiens jacket
Photograph signed: "Bob/Berry" in blue ink. 3½x4½. Bob
Berry (b. 1943) is a retired NHL left winger who played 8 seasons for the
Montreal Canadiens (1968-1969), and the Los Angeles Kings
(1970-1977). A good scorer, Berry played 541 NHL games (only 2 with
Montreal) and earned 159 goals, with 350 points total; moreover, Berry was
selected to play in the 1972-1973 and the 1973-1974 NHL All-Star game. After
his retirement in 1978, Berry was chosen head coach of the Kings which during
his tenure they won 107 games over three seasons and he is furthermore credited
with the ascent of the famed "Triple Crown Line". He returned to his
hometown of Montreal to coach the Canadiens in 1981; during the first two
seasons the team excelled during the regular season, but failed to get past the
first round of playoffs. After a horrible 1983-1984 season where the team was
below .500, he was fired. Berry resurfaced as head coach for the Pittsburgh
Penguins in 1984, and was unsuccessful for 3 seasons at even reaching the
playoffs. From 1989-2000, he was an assistant coach for both the St. Louis Blues
and the San Jose Sharks before his coaching retirement in 2000. He has since
been a pro scout for the Chicago Blackhawks, the Kings, the Blues, and the
Ottawa Senators. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
