BOB KANE
Photograph of four popular Batman villains, signed by Batman's creator in blue felt tip
Photograph signed: "Bob/Kane". B/w, 10x8. Photograph of four popular villians from the TV series, Batman (1966-1968), signed by the superhero's creator.Pictured are Frank Gorshin (1933-2005) as The Riddler, Cesar Romero (1907-1994) as The Joker, Lee Meriwether as The Catwoman/Comrade Kitanya "Kitka" Irenya Tantanya Karenska Alisof and Burgess Meredith (1907-1997) as The Penquin. In 1939, 18-year-old Bob Kane (1915-1998), a born doodler, was challenged by his boss at DC Comics to create a superhero. Kane responded by ingeniously combining the fear of bats and the use of disguises from the 1920s silent films, The Bat and The Mark of Zorro, with drawings from Leonardo da Vinci to create his heroic character, Batman. His renderings of Batman, Robin and their villainous counterparts transcended the fledgling comic book industry. Kane's superhero and his alter ego, Bruce Wayne (modeled on the artist himself), has been the subject of a campy TV series (1966-1968) and a series of Batman films, including Batman (1989), Batman Returns (1992), Batman Forever (1995), Batman & Robin (1997) and Batman Begins (2005), as well as a spin-off film, Catwoman (2004). With the Pop Art quality of his printed work, Kane bridged a wide range of media. Slightly creased at upper blank corners. Fine condition.
