Autograph note signed: "Bob Kurland", 6¼x5 piece of paper attached to 6¾x6¼ piece of construction paper (two surfaces). No place, no date. In full: "Bill-I don't have a 'new' photo- But a new one will be an old one pretty quick- How about accepting the enclosed [not present] Best regards" Bob Kurland (1924-2013) played for the Oklahoma A&M Aggies, now the Oklahoma State Cowboys, which won the NCAA championship in 1945 and 1946, and was part of the United States gold-medal winning men's basketball squads at the 1948 and 1952 Olympics. Kurland was a towering seven feet tall. He had a tendency to grab his opponent's shots above the rim, which led to the NCAA banning defensive goaltending in 1945. He was also one of the first people to regularly dunk the ball because of his great height. Kurland never played pro ball but did play for six years in the Amateur Athletic Union after college. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1961. Irregular edges. Fold crease not near signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
