Inscribed photograph signed: "To Tom!/Bob Seagren" in blue ink. B/w, 8x10 overall. Bob Seagren (b. 1946) is an actor and former Olympic pole-vaulter who won the gold medal at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics and won the silver at the 1972 Munich Olympics. The 1972 Olympics marked the first time that an American pole-vaulter had to settle for silver instead of gold. A college and Pan American Games champion pole-vaulter, he broke the world record for pole vaulting four times, in 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1972, with a maximum height of 18 feet and 5 3/4 inches. He held the record for almost three years until it was broken by fellow American Dave Roberts. He went on to become an actor in several movies and television shows, including a 1978 role in the TV show Soap, in which he played a gay football player in a relationship with Billy Crystal's character Jodie Dallas. He is currently CEO of International City Racing, which develops and implements road races and endurance and fitness contests including the Long Beach International City Marathon. Fine condition.
