BOB STEELE and KEN NILES
Album leaf signed by the Western hero on one side, and by the radio host on the other, with places and dates of acquisition noted in the lower margin
Autograph Note signed: "To Vicki -Best of luck/Bob Steele", 5½x4½ album leaf. Ink note (unknown hand): Bob Steele seen at 'It Café' - Pine Street [Hollywood] - Friday - April 22 - 1938". Also signed on verso: "To Victoria/Ken Niles". Ink note (unknown hand): Ken Niles seen at Hollywood Hotel broadcast - Friday nite - April 22, 1938". A B-film Western hero of the late silent and early talkie era, BOB STEELE (1906-1988) performed well in other roles when given the chance, as in Of Mice and Men (1939) and The Big Sleep (1946). He continued to play supporting roles, mainly in Westerns, into the 1970s, and also played Trooper Duffy on TV's F Troop (1965-1967). American radio announcer KEN NILES (1908-1988) co-hosted Hollywood Hotel, a 1930s radio program featuring talent, interviews and gossip, with Louella Parsons. He was a radio spokesman for Camel cigarettes on several shows, often used as a foil by Abbott and Costello. His brother, Wendell Niles, was also a prominent radio announcer. Lightly toned at edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
