8x10. Sepia. Bandleader Bob Strong (1906-1976) knew how to play at least six
instruments, including the saxophone and clarinet. Upon forming his own
orchestra at the young age of 18 in 1924, he became an arranger and
composer. The Bob Strong Orchestra got started as a group that played at dinner
clubs around the country, but eventually made some business connections, most
notably orchestra leader Paul Ash. He parlayed this relationship into several
appearances at Chicago's Oriental Theatre. The Orchestra went on to compose
and perform for various radio shows for Red Skelton and Fibber McGee, among
many others. The Orchestra went on to perform live at concert halls
throughout the country, featuring original Strong compositions such as the
band's theme song "Tonal Color Serenade" and “That's All, Brother”.
