BOB TURLEY
Signing this baseball, Turley declares himself "proud to be a Yankee".
Baseball Signed with Autograph Quotation: "Bullet Bob Turley/N. Y. Yankee 1955-62/Proud to be/a Yankee". Rawlings Official Major League Baseball, Allan H. Selig, Commissioner. Bob Turley (1930-2013) was in the bigs in 1951 and from 1953 to 1963, mostly with the New York Yankees. He won the Cy Young Award in 1958, when he led the American League in wins, win-loss percentage and complete games, and was voted to three All-Star teams (1954, 1955, 1958). He was also on two championship Yankees rosters (1956 and 1958) and was named 1958 World Series Most Valuable Player. He left the majors with a 101-85 record and a 3.64 ERA, notching 24 shutouts and 1,265 strikeouts. That strikeout total, consistently among the League's best, earned him the nickname "Bullet Bob." He spent 1964 as a pitching coach for the BoSox before leaving baseball for good and joining Primerica Financial Services. Once a mother asked Turley to pose with her 8-year old son on his lap. That photo still sits on Billy Crystal's desk. Printing error stain at center. Fine condition.
