BOBBY HOWES
9x12 magazine photo of the English musical comedy star. Rare!
Magazine Photograph signed: "Bobby Howes". B/w, 9x12. Page
from Picturegoer Weekly, December 24, 1932. Caption lauds his forthcoming
film appearance in For the Love of Mike. English singer and actor Charles
Robert William "Bobby" Howes (1895-1972) had his stage career interrupted
by World War I, in which he suffered a gas attack. But he recovered to become a
musical comedy star on London stages. One of his most popular roles was that
of Mr. Cinder (1934), a Cinderella role-reversal comedy co-starring
Binnie Hale, his frequent co-star. During the 1960's, he was part of the
Four Bright Sparks, a vocal ensemble who recorded at least 60
songs. As noted in the caption, his film appearances were few, but extending
from the late silent era (The Guns of Loos, 1928) to British teleplays of
the 1950s. He was the father of actress Sally Ann Howes. One horizontal fold.
