BOBBY TROUP Troup handwrote and signed four lines to his hit song Route 66 in brown ink on this blank music sheet Autograph lyrics signed "Bobby Troup" in brown ink. 1 page, 8¼x10¾, on a blank sheet with imprinted musical bars and guitar tabs and five binder holes on left edge. In full: "Hey you go through St. Louey/Joplin Missouri and Oklahoma City/looks mighty pretty! Get your kicks on Route 66!" These, of course, are lyrics from Troup's most well-known song, Route 66, which Nat King Cole turned into a standard in the 1940s. Troup (1918-1999) was a Marine captain during World War II, he was the first white officer to be given command of an all-black unit in Jackson, North Carolina; he improved conditions for his men in what was then the pre-Civil Rights South. Troup was mainly a composer, songwriter and pianist. He released his own albums in the 1950s, but none of these was quite as successful as Route 66, which by then had become a standard. Troup also had numerous movie and TV appearances between 1950 and 1985, including a role as Dr. Joe Early on Emergency! (1972-1979). Lightly toned and creased. Lightly nicked at left edge and upper right corner. Otherwise in fine condition.
